Why did you decide to do an MBA?

I decided to pursue an MBA to develop a more rigorous and structured understanding of business, while strengthening my ability to think strategically across functions. After eight years of professional experience with the State Bank of India, the Canadian and Australian High Commissions, and IBM, I have had the opportunity to work across a wide range of functions, including investment banking, treasury, international business, corporate banking, MIS and data analytics, retail banking, diplomacy, operations, and capital markets. While this breadth of exposure has been invaluable, it also highlighted the need to consolidate my learning within a cohesive managerial and strategic framework.

Through these experiences, I developed a strong appreciation for how different parts of an organisation are interconnected, as well as the importance of informed decision making in complex and dynamic environments. However, I recognised that progressing into roles with greater strategic responsibility requires a deeper grounding in core business disciplines, alongside a more structured approach to problem solving and leadership.

Ivey stood out as the natural choice for this next step, particularly because of its case based learning approach. The emphasis on real world business situations, rigorous classroom discussion, and decision making under uncertainty aligns closely with how I learn and with the environments in which I have worked. The case method provides the opportunity to analyse complex problems, articulate and defend perspectives, and learn from the diverse viewpoints of peers, closely reflecting real managerial decision making.

Equally important is the collaborative nature of the programme, which offers an ideal environment to further refine my leadership and communication skills. Engaging with a diverse cohort allows me to challenge my perspectives, broaden my thinking, and develop the ability to lead effectively in global and cross cultural settings.

The MBA is therefore a deliberate step towards accelerating my career progression. It equips me with the technical expertise and professional network required to transition into roles that demand greater analytical depth and strategic oversight.

Ultimately, my decision reflects a clear intention to build on my diverse professional background, fully leverage Ivey’s distinctive learning approach, and position myself to create meaningful impact in the next phase of my career.

What is the most significant thing you've learned at Ivey?

The most significant thing I have learned at Ivey is how to exercise sound judgement in situations where information is incomplete, time is limited, and the stakes are high. The case based learning approach, combined with Ivey’s emphasis on unique class contribution, has fundamentally reshaped how I think, communicate, and make decisions.

Coming into the programme with experience across institutions such as the State Bank of India, the Canadian and Australian High Commissions, and IBM, I had developed exposure to a range of functions including investment banking, treasury, international business, corporate banking, operations, and data analytics. However, much of my decision making in those roles was shaped by functional expertise or organisational context. At Ivey, I have learned to step back and approach problems more holistically, integrating financial, strategic, operational, and human considerations into a single line of reasoning.

What distinguishes the Ivey experience is the expectation that every student contributes a distinct perspective to the classroom. This has pushed me to be consistently prepared, to form a clear point of view, and to articulate it with both clarity and conviction. At the same time, it has reinforced the importance of listening carefully to others, challenging assumptions, and refining my thinking in real time. My prior experience as a radio artist helped me enter discussions with confidence, but Ivey has sharpened that further by demanding precision, structure, and relevance in every contribution.

In many ways, the classroom mirrors real world decision making environments. There is no opportunity to defer judgement or rely on perfect information. Instead, one must assess the situation, weigh competing priorities, and take a position while remaining accountable for the outcome. This has been particularly valuable in helping me connect my past experiences to a more structured decision making framework.

Ultimately, the most significant learning has been developing the ability to combine analytical rigour with practical judgement, while communicating decisions effectively in a collaborative setting. It is a skill that extends well beyond the classroom and one that I see as central to effective leadership going forward.

What's been the most surprising aspect of the Ivey MBA journey to date?

The most surprising aspect of the Ivey MBA journey has been the intensity of engagement and the pace at which both learning and relationships evolve. Each day demands preparation, participation, and reflection, which creates a deeply immersive environment. What has genuinely stood out is the strength of the community. Despite the demanding schedule, there is a strong culture of support, where peers are willing to challenge one another constructively while also stepping in to help when needed. Coming from a background that includes volunteering in the NCC Army Wing, I value discipline, teamwork, and resilience, and it has been particularly rewarding to see those same qualities reflected and reinforced within the Ivey community.

Ivey in one word or a few words: Please share what your Ivey experience is to you!

My Ivey experience, to me, is best described as deeply immersive, collaborative, and transformative. It has been a journey that has not only strengthened my professional capabilities but also broadened my perspective in meaningful ways.

Coming from a background that spans institutions such as the State Bank of India, the Canadian and Australian High Commissions, and IBM, I had exposure to diverse functions including investment banking, treasury, international business, corporate banking, operations, and data analytics. However, the Ivey case based learning approach has elevated how I interpret and apply those experiences. Each case requires me to step into the role of a decision maker, assess complex and often ambiguous situations, and take a clear position. This has instilled a far more structured and disciplined way of thinking, where I am able to connect prior experience with rigorous analysis and practical judgement.

A defining aspect of the Ivey experience is its emphasis on unique class contribution. The expectation that each individual brings a distinct perspective to the discussion has pushed me to be consistently prepared, thoughtful, and precise in how I communicate my ideas. It has also reinforced the importance of actively listening to others and being open to refining my views in real time. This dynamic has made learning far more engaging and reflective of real world environments, where diverse viewpoints shape better outcomes.

Equally significant has been the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with peers from a wide range of nationalities and professional backgrounds. Interacting with individuals who bring different cultural perspectives and experiences has enriched both classroom discussions and day to day interactions. It has broadened my understanding of global business environments while also fostering a strong sense of community.

Living and studying in Canada has added another valuable dimension to this journey. Gaining insight into the Canadian economy, its institutional frameworks, and its business culture has been both intellectually engaging and personally enriching. It has allowed me to better understand how economic principles are applied within a different national context, while also appreciating the values of inclusivity, professionalism, and collaboration that define the Canadian environment.

Overall, my Ivey experience is one of continuous growth. It is an environment that challenges me to think more critically, communicate more effectively, and engage more deeply with both ideas and people. It has been a truly rewarding experience that is shaping not only my professional trajectory but also my broader outlook.
