Why did you decide to do an MBA?
First, I’ve hit a ceiling with nursing as a career. I wanted to be surrounded by industry leaders and innovators, and to be challenged against my thought process. It was rewarding to see how I could impact lives directly, which prompted me to want to further influence health outcomes on a larger scale. I love the cause of nursing, helping people, but the rest of what I have mentioned, I yearn for, is lacking. I wanted to learn about different industries like finance, supply chain, and operations. Second, I aspire to be a healthcare consultant for a big firm, and if you go on LinkedIn and type healthcare consultants in Canada, you’ll see that half of them are RNs with an MBA. However, I am open to learning about other career paths too, as I grow and learn more through the program. Third, it is a versatile business degree that is well-known to the public. If I find interest in other industries, the knowledge I gain from the MBA would be more easily transferable. My partner also runs a medium-sized supply chain family business focused on agriculture, and I hope to apply the knowledge I learn from my MBA to help expand his business. Lastly, beyond the functional aspect, too, it’s for sentimental reasons; I physically wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for my dad giving up his MBA degree due to a riot at the time of his studies. All of these reasons just clicked with me, and here I am now before you.
