Why did you decide to do an MBA?
Over the past decade, I’ve gained extensive hands-on experience in marketing, branding, and strategy through my work in the CPG industry. While this practical knowledge has been invaluable, I recognize the need for a more structured and theoretical understanding to elevate my decision-making and strategic thinking. Additionally, my entire career has been built in China, which presents challenges when transitioning into the Canadian job market, particularly in terms of market familiarity and professional networks.
I see the Ivey MBA as the perfect platform to bridge these gaps. The case-based learning approach will sharpen my business acumen and challenge me to think critically from multiple perspectives. The program’s strong alumni network and career support will be instrumental in helping me build meaningful connections and better navigate the Canadian market. Most importantly, I want to ensure that my previous professional experience isn’t lost in translation, but rather transformed into a strength as I continue pursuing the work I love, now within a new cultural and business environment. Ivey is the ideal place to make that transition with purpose and confidence.
What is the most significant thing you've learned at Ivey?
1. Manage your MBA journey—don’t let it manage you. With the fast-paced nature of Ivey’s program, balancing coursework, coffee chats, networking events, case prep, and job search can be overwhelming. It’s essential to master time management, set clear priorities, and recognize that you don’t have to move at the same pace as everyone else. Sometimes, success means knowing what to say no to.
2. Self-directed learning is at the heart of the MBA experience. The classroom provides structure, but real growth happens through curiosity and self-exploration. Stay energized, take initiative in your development, and embrace the opportunity to learn from the incredible classmates around you.
