Michael Major

I have an honours bachelor's degree in Political Science from Western University, where I played for the varsity men's rugby team. My professional experience spans account management, negotiations, and marketing in the consumer packaged goods, retail, and logistics industries. After working in Toronto for four years, I decided to pursue an MBA to cultivate my network, problem-solving acumen, and leadership skills. During the Ivey MBA, I have primarily focused on building my general business acumen and engaging in strategy and finance-centred electives. My current interests in business are the factors and strategies that drive long-term performance for global organizations. Outside of work and school, my favourite activities include skiing, hiking, and Muay Thai.

I began my MBA research process through online research and connecting with recruiters at each school I was interested in pursuing. Ivey was very personal and candid throughout the application process, and nearly all my interactions with the School were either by phone or in person, demonstrating to me that Ivey truly cares about the prospective student community. A moment that helped me make my decision was the case on the road with Ivey’s David Wood. At that event, I got to witness the learning experience that is the Case Method. Ultimately following this experience, I knew Ivey was the right fit for me due to the teaching method and global alumni network. During the application process and interactions with the exceptional Ivey Admissions team, it became clear the Admission Committee values well-rounded individuals with a balance of IQ and EQ.

My class has been uniquely affected by the government mandated lockdown stemming from the ongoing pandemic. This transition during an already unique year in my professional career has taught me to be more resilient in the face of uncertainty. Our class managed to adapt and stay connected through virtual means and then by informally organizing social events as restrictions lifted. My favourite part of adapting has been morning workouts at the park and coffee with my classmates before class.
