- Honors Bachelor of Commerce in Management, University of Ottawa
My name is Aleks and I am a Polish Canadian — born in Ottawa, raised in Quebec. I grew up travelling to many parts of the world and developing a love for people and languages. Prior to Ivey, I worked as an Associate for WelchGroup Consulting for several months and volunteered as the manager of a not-for-profit soccer league. I also completed a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in Management at the University of Ottawa during which I worked as the Head Teaching Assistant of the Telfer School of Management. I was very involved throughout my studies; I participated in countless case competitions and student societies and volunteered as a mentor, marketing director, project manager, competition judge, etc. I also participated in a life-changing exchange semester in Hong Kong during which I uncovered a need and desire to pursue a master’s. I applied to Ivey because the MSc program offered constant international exposure, an exceptional approach to learning, and access to an elite community of brilliant leaders — including the CEMS network. Ivey’s MSc program was an opportunity for me to fuel my curiosity and desire to explore foreign markets. As someone who is passionate about marketing and international consumer differences, it was important for me to gain more experiences abroad while getting the best education available to me.
Now I am partway through my degree. I spent one semester in London, recently completed my IGL internship in India, and I will pursue the remainder of my studies in Spain and Chile. In fact, one of my personal goals going into the program was to become fluent in Spanish; I plan to perfect my linguistic ability during these exchange semesters.
Thus far, my Ivey experience has been phenomenal and I can see myself evolving into the business professional I want to become. I am more decided and focused on the career I want to pursue, and I am constantly developing my mind and abilities. Once I graduate, my goal is to work in marketing for a large consumer goods company such as Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Ferrero, LEGO or P&G. Then, once I gain enough experience, I want to teach university lectures and manage my own marketing consulting firm.
One of my favourite Ivey moments to date was a magical evening in India on the first night we arrived to an exquisite hotel in Mumbai. When the sun started to set, a group of us went up to the swimming pool, played ‘chicken wars’ and watched the sky turn into vivid colours. We laughed so much as we tried to knock each other down in the water. Then when the pool closed, we went to our rooms, changed into business clothes and attended a networking event. This evening captures the essence of my Ivey experience so far; it has been filled with opportunities, friendships, networking, fun, and exceptional day-to-day learning — all over the world. I feel so lucky to be in this program and cannot wait to see where it takes me next.
