MSc International Business & CEMS-MIM 2018
MSc '18, Ivey Business School
Briefly, describe your background and profile. Think about how Ivey is/will complement your own personal background and experience.
I come from a small island just off of Vancouver called Bowen Island, so I grew up in a small town before moving to the city. I then moved to Nova Scotia for my undergrad in business administration at Acadia University. This was another very small community, which I was heavily involved in. I think that Ivey complements my learning thus far as it is a tight community that has a great support system and lots of opportunities to get involved.
Think back to when you were researching business schools. What did Ivey offer you that other schools did not? What made it a good fit for you?
I really liked the idea of the case-based method that Ivey offers, as I learn better in hands-on situations (rather than theoretical ones). I think that learning how to apply theories is much more valuable when going into real-world scenarios. I also liked the variety of backgrounds that the students going into the International Business program came from, as it made it a much more global experience.
Think about the relationships you’ve built with students, staff and faculty.
My fellow students at Ivey are probably my favorite part of the school to date. The fact that people come from different backgrounds, in terms of both culture and education, allows for so much more learning than in other educational environments I have experienced.
So far, the Ivey Career Management Team and the Ivey Admin have been a great support. They are quick to respond to questions and have gone above and beyond to help me multiple times - from scheduling weird meeting times when I was on IGL to taking extra time out of their day to review my resume that one extra time.
What are your plans after Ivey? What do you hope to achieve by graduation?
