MSc IB + CEMS 2017

I learned about Ivey Business School in the context of the international CEMS Program, as a leading institution for developing responsible global leaders with a special interest in environmental and social responsibility. My experience at Ivey can be described as a deep dive into an amazing interactive learning experience. I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity to learn and to stretch my comfort zones in many different ways.

Coming from Europe and the Swiss university system, where I did my bachelor’s degree in Communication and Media Science, and after two years of work experience in this sector, I was excited to be exposed to an international setting to learn about business management in an intercultural environment. Ivey’s famous case-method approach has been a real adventure so far. When classes begin you have to be ready to articulate your thoughts concisely and contribute to class discussion with impact. This means developing fast decision-making skills and building upon peers’ perspectives with agility in the moment, to contribute meaningfully to the class debate. At first this felt very challenging, and I quickly realized how I was gaining a new skill in bringing my point across in sophisticated English business language. The high quality of the Ivey professors is what especially makes the difference in creating a safe and effective learning space. The professors engage actively with each student and deliver additional valuable feedback to each individual’s performance. The incredible diversity of my peers’ backgrounds brings further valuable experiences to the classroom and is creating an inspiring setting.

At Ivey I am exposed to very diverse cultures. Our class represents countries from all over the world: China, India, Europe, UAE, Jamaica, Sri Lanka, and North America. This brings daily live intercultural exposure to the classroom. I have experienced cross-cultural learning through group work projects and in-depth business understanding of emerging markets through the Ivey Global Lab. For two months our class went to work in companies in India and Nicaragua. Through my consulting project in the renewable energy sector in Pune, India I could sharpen my analytical skill set and see how big data influences important management situations. This experience was amazing and I learned about new business sectors and completely new business cultures. I will have an additional international experience in my exchange at the CEMS Partner University — NHH, Norway School of Economics.

If somebody asked me if I would choose the same program for my Masters in International Business I would say YES! My educational and professional path has been very rich, with excellent business classes from top professors and student support through the engaged Career Management Services at Ivey. Furthermore I have gained wonderful personal and business friendships all over the world. With all my skills gathered at Ivey I feel ready and prepared to embrace the responsibilities and the path to engage myself as a future leader facing the challenges and opportunities that are yet to come.
