MSc International Business 2018
MSc 2018, Ivey Business School
Briefly, describe your background and profile. Think about how Ivey is/will complement your own personal background and experience.
My background is in business information systems and I want to move towards a strategy focused career rather than being limited to the Corporate IT niche.
Talk about one of your most memorable “Ivey” moments to-date – how does that moment ‘sum-up’ the Ivey experience?
While IGL stands out, I would say the day-to-day life at the end of first-semester sums-up Ivey the best. Everyone was working hard on final projects and studying for final exams, yet everyone was so collaborative and happy to help each other. Usually, prestigious schools are a trade-off where you sacrifice collaboration for access to top recruiters. Ivey has both.
What are your plans after Ivey? What do you hope to achieve by graduation?
My purpose for undertaking the MSc was a long-term plan that would give me access to firms and positions that require the credibility of a top tier school like Ivey and the education level of a masters. Immediately, my plan is to be in a position that gives me exposure to as many firms and industries as possible. From this position, I intend to choose a firm in an industry that I find interesting enough to commit to for the long-term.
What advice would you give to prospective students considering Ivey?
I would advise prospective Ivey students to contact current or past Ivey students to ask them directly to see if the program is the right fit for them and vice versa. It may seem obvious, but personally, I would have been intimidated to reach out to current or past students. What must be understood about Ivey, however, is that the network is so strong, which is made possible in part by the extremely high participation level of those who are in that network. Ivey is an extremely collaborative place and prospective students can be sure that they will get excellent, helpful responses from program alumni!
