MSc International Business & CEMS-MIM 2018
MSc '18, Ivey Business School
Briefly, describe your background and profile. Think about how Ivey is/will complement your own personal background and experience.
Having finished my undergraduate degree in consumer behaviour, I realized that I wanted to take my career to the next level. I had spent a lot of time abroad during my time at Western and discovered that travel was something I was incredibly passionate about. I was looking for a way to merge my desire for career success as well as my desire to become a global citizen. I wasn't content with settling and I realized that Ivey would provide the education and soft skills I needed to help accelerate my career as well as providing the network I needed to help me work around the world.
Think back to when you were researching business schools. What did Ivey offer you that other schools did not? What made it a good fit for you?
For me, it was the ability to do a degree where I would be able to get not only a rigorous North American master’s degree, but also the opportunity to study at some of the world's best business schools. As well, the ability to gain the CEMS accreditation, which carries an incredible network throughout Europe and Asia, aligned perfectly with my goals. This combination was something totally unique that I couldn't find anywhere else.
Talk about one of your most memorable “Ivey” moments to-date – how does that moment ‘sum-up’ the Ivey experience?
I think the most memorable experience was probably working on a project that involved doing EEG (Electroencephalography) scans on fellow classmates for a Customer Insights class with General Mills. It was something completely new and innovative, and the ability to partner with a major company as a student was incredibly exciting.
Think about the relationships you’ve built with students, staff and faculty.
The faculty are some of the best in the world and genuinely care for the success of their students. I've never experienced this in a university setting before. If you demonstrate an interest and a passion, they'll go above and beyond to help you achieve your goals.
I think I was most nervous about what kind of people my classmates would be. I was worried they would be hyper-competitive and unapproachable. I found this couldn't be further from the truth. The MSc students are an incredibly diverse bunch from all different backgrounds, and our diversity makes us incredibly welcoming and supportive of each other.
What are your plans after Ivey? What do you hope to achieve by graduation?
After graduation I hope to work in Management Consulting or Marketing, then perhaps go back to school and pursue my PhD in Neuromarketing in the United States.
What advice would you give to prospective students considering Ivey?
I would say you should reach out to a current MSc student and get their opinion. It's one thing to read brochures or do campus tours, but getting a first-hand perspective will be invaluable in determining if you're the right fit for the program.
Describe a moment you’ve experienced inside or outside the classroom at Ivey that you will never forget.
I'd say the most memorable thing would probably be our CEMS Club Canada networking trip to Toronto. It was great to get out of London and have some fun with my classmates.
